Amrish Puri 

Amrish Puri  was a leading theatre and film actor from India, who was a key player in the Indian theatre movement that picked up steam in the 1960s. He worked with notable playwrights of the time, such as Satyadev Dubey and Girish Karnad. However, he is primarily remembered for essaying iconic negative roles in Hindi cinema as well as other Indian and international film industries. To Indian audiences he is the most remembered for his role as Mogambo in Shekhar Kapur's Hindi film Mr. India  and to Western audiences he is best known as Mola Ram in Steven Spielberg's Hollywood film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

His siblings include elder brothers Chaman Puri, Madan Puri (both actors) and elder sister Chandrakanta and younger brother Harish Puri. He went on to work in Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Hollywood, Punjabi, Malayalam, Telugu and Tamil films. Though he was successful in all of these industries, he is best known for his work in Bollywood cinema. He has appeared in over four hundred films. His dominating screen presence and baritone voice made him stand out amongst the other villains of the day.

Amjad Khan

Amjad Khan was the son of legendary actor Jayant. He was the brother of fellow actor Imtiaz Khan and Inayat Khan who acted in one film. Khan was educated at St Theresa's High School, in Bandra, Mumbai. He attended R D National College, and was the general secretary – the highest elected student body representative. He worked in over 130 films in a career spanning nearly twenty years. He enjoyed popularity for his villainous roles in Hindi films, the most famous being the iconic Gabbar Singh in the 1975 classic Sholay and of Dilawar in Muqaddar Ka Sikandar.

Pran Krishan Sikand

Pran Krishan Sikand better known as Pran, was a multiple Filmfare award-winning Indian actor, known as a movie villain and character actor in Hindi cinema from the 1940s to the 1990s. He acted as a villain from 1942–1991 and played supporting and character roles from 1948–2007. In a long and prolific career he appeared in over 350 films. Pran has received numerous awards and honours in his career. He won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award in 1967, 1969 and 1972 and was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. He was awarded as the 'Villain of the Millennium' by Stardust in 2000. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2013 for his contributions towards Indian cinema. In 2010, he was named on the list of CNN's Top 25 Asian actors of all time.

There are a few others who made their presence felt with negative roles such as Gulshan Grover, Ranjit etc. While we think about woman in negative roles then instantly the name of Lalita Pawar keep crawling into our mind.

Lalita Pawar

Lalita Pawar was born on 18 April 1916. she started her acting career at age nine in the film, Raja Harishchandra (1928), and later went on to play lead roles in silent era and 1940's films, in a career that lasted until the end of her life, spanning seven decades. She was known particularly for playing maternal figures, especially wicked matriarchs or mothers-in-law. She also notably played the role of the strict but kind Mrs. L. D'Sa in Anari (1959) with Raj Kapoor, under Hrishikesh Mukherjee's direction, she gave the performance of a lifetime for which she received Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and the devious hunchback Manthara in Ramanand Sagar's television series Ramayan. She was honoured by the Government of India as the first lady of Indian cinema, in 1961. She died unnoticed on 24 February 1998 in Aundh, Pune.

Apart from Lalita Pawar, there was a few like, Nadira, Shashikala and Bindu, but now there is not a single actress who can fill the slot like these actress have done.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - I !!

I am more passionate about Ravana's than the Rama. However, I am completely opposite of category of good basher and evil hugger. I was from a different era where we saw quite a few evil characters in Bollywood. Almost, all movies had a one such. Honestly, those days we were really scared of those fellas. Yet, today we hate to hate them because they were not the villain in their real life as we projected when we were kid. Current phase we hardly see a villains in the long run. They come and they fizzled before noticed. The hero's of bollywod doing overtime be it villain or a comedian, hero’s coming with a complete package. Therefore there are hardly any actors around whom we can term as villain as it was decades before. With the demise of Pran, the golden era of gentleman villains comes to an end. Here are few names who entertained us throughout the generation and made the Hero’s out of nothing.

K. N. Singh

K. N. Singh was a prominent villain of Hindi films. K. N. Singh came to acting by way of law, giving up his first career in 1937 to pursue his newfound interest in performance. More often than not, Singh found himself portraying a "gentleman" type of villain, usually costumed in a fine suit and hat, and smoking a pipe. His career spanned six decades and included over 200 films. In 2000, he died at the age of 91.

Madan Puri

Madan Lal Puri had four siblings, among elder brother Chaman Lal Puri, younger brother Amrish Lal Puri  was known to Indian audience. He was the first cousin of the legendary singer K.L. Saigal, with whose help he started to make a mark in Bollywood. Once Puri was an established star he did the same for his brother the late Amrish Puri by helping him in establishing himself in the movie world. Puri had an acting career which spanned over 40 years from the 1940s through to the mid-1980s. He appeared in more than 300 films. He was one of the greatest villains in Bollywood.

Premnath

Premnath made his film debut in Ajit  and  then he got a major roles in Raj Kapoor's first directorial film Aag and Barsaat which was his first major success. Premnath went on to appear in many films for the next three decades, some of which were the biggest blockbusters in Indian film history. He played the central villain role or supporting role were some of the biggest blockbusters in Indian film history. He died in 1992 of a heart attack at the age of sixty-six.

Ajit

Hamid Ali Khan, better known by his stage name Ajit acted in over two hundred movies in almost four decades. His first movie as a villain was Suraj and with films such as Zanjeer and Yaadon Ki Baaraat, there was no looking back for him. He died in 1998 at the age of seventy-six.

Kanhaiya Lal

Kanhaiya Lal Chaturvedi staged his own written play Pandrah August in Mumbai, later he tried his luck in films. In 1940 he got a role of moneylender in a Mehboob Khan's film. After that he later acted in many films as a character artist. When Mehboob Khan was directed his immortal film Mother India he again picked Kanhaiya Lal to act as Sukkhi Lala, a character that came alive with his natural acting.

Jeevan

Jeevan, who acted as Narad Muni in mythological films of the 1950s. Later he essayed the role of a villain in many films of the 60s, 70s and 80s.  He died in 1987 at the age of 72.

Rocking BOSEs! Ha .. Ha!!

 So many things which prove the extreme egotism of human being. So, when it comes to feel proud for others achievements our dimensions keep shrinking on situations. We definitely will feel proud for the achievement of  peoples from our planet if there is an another planet to compete with us. The dimension keep reducing as per our desire, from our country to state, then to city and so on. Today, being a Bose myself, I will be always feel proud of other namesake too. Today it is all about Amar G. Bose, because he was a real achiever. Being in the computer field many times when people ask for the suggestion for what type of speaker or sound system they should buy, my advise always was “if you can afford then go for BOSE”.

There were many Bose who made me proud for the lastname which I shared with them and A. G. Bose was one of them.

Amar Gopal Bose

Amar Gopal Bose was born in 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father Nani Gopal Bose was a revolutionary freedom fighter who emigrated from Calcutta. Amar Bose was interested in electronics right from his childhood and used to make small electrical toys to supplement his family's income. He did his schooling Abington Senior High School and graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering from MIT in the early 1950s. He also completed his Ph.D. from MIT.

While doing graduation from MIT in 1950s, Amar Bose purchased a new stereo system. But he was disappointed with the performance of the speakers. Despite their impressive technical specifications, the speakers failed to reproduce the realism of a live performance. This led Bose to start working on stereo speaker. He aimed to design a speaker that would emulate the concert hall experience in the home. Amar Bose's early patents won him great respect within the industry. But Bose needed capital to do further research and begin production. Amar Bose received financial support from MIT professor Y. W. Lee and in 1964 he founded Bose Corporation.

In 1968, Amar Bose invented the 901(R) Direct/Reflecting(R) speaker system. They were one of the first stereo loudspeakers to utilize the space around them instead of reproducing sound as if in a vacuum. Bose's 901(R) speakers remained an industry benchmark for 25 years. Amar Bose also captured the car stereo market, with systems that transformed the on-the-road listening experience.

His products can be found in Olympics stadiums, the Sistine Chapel, NASA Space Shuttle, and the Japanese National Theatre. Amar Bose was also a professor of electrical engineering at MIT for many years until he retired in 2000. Amar Bose featured on the 2006 Forbes Billionaires list with a personal wealth of $1.2 billion.

Amar Bose has 98 patents in sound technology.

Not! Just Another Love Story!!

Sad to see that more often inhabitants overlook greatness of the other people and try to dig into their personal life to ridicule them for some or other aspect. We have to wakeup to the realization that what is normal for me may be abnormal for others. Not only in my state alone, or in India but as a citizen of the world we are yet to accept certain things what we called as abnormal. We, collectively always failed to understand the peoples with different sexual orientations or preferences. Often peoples from different walks of the life never failed to humiliate them without bothering that it is none of their business. After sad demise of renown director Rituparno Ghosh, it is time for us to realize that a human should be treated by his or her merit. Rituparno Ghosh was a genius of his own right. When he made award wining movie ‘Unishe April’, Bengali cinema was going through dire straits and the movie can be described  as trailblazer. A small tribute to the genius who died on 30^th May, 2013.

Rituparno Ghosh was born on 31 August 1963. He completed his schooling from South Point High School, and obtained a degree in economics from Jadavpur University. In 1992, his first film 'Hirer Angti' released. His next was 'Unishe April' in 1994 and won National Film Award for Best Feature Film.

He has won 12 National Film Awards in India and several awards at international film festivals abroad. He also have 19 awards in his name for work in advertisement he worked for. Here listing is some of his works :

No entrainment can beat a football match when two quality teams fighting out on the pitch. Only sport which involved us physically and psychologically be it on television or from the touchline.  It is not all about Uff’s or WOW‘s like other sports. Frankly speaking, it is difficult stay still while watching a football match, my two feet constantly react with every hit and miss. Since ages I am following English Premier League. Even long before television arrived in India, I was madly following the game. Not, denying. at that time I was supporting Liverpool, it was when Kenny Dalglish  was in his prime. In 80’s I switched my loyalty to another RED and obliviously it is the Red Devil, Manchester United. Even MANU hater have to agree that the glamour quotient of the club is never got any competition not even by Barcelona. In 1986 a man in his early forties took over the charge of the club as head coach at old Trafford and rest was the history.  It is difficult to imagine the same Old Trafford without a man who constantly chewing the gum and adjusting his watch with the playing schedule. Often he is angry and often breaks in to a jig with immense happiness. A tribute to the Scottish genius named as Alexander Chapman Ferguson and fondly known as Sir Alex or Fergie.

Sir Alex Ferguson

Alexander Chapman Ferguson was born on  31 December 1941in Govan, Glasgow, Scotland.

After his playing career, he briefly coached a few club in Scotland and then at the end of the 1984–85 season, it was reported that Ferguson was being considered for the Liverpool manager's job after the retirement of Joe Fagan was announced, but the job was quickly accepted by Liverpool striker Kenny Dalglish, he did eventually join Manchester United when Atkinson was sacked in November 1986.

Appointment and first years

Ferguson was appointed manager at Old Trafford on 6 November 1986. He was initially worried that many of the players, such as Norman Whiteside, Paul McGrath and Bryan Robson were drinking too much and was "depressed" by their level of fitness, but he managed to increase the players' discipline and United climbed up the table to finish the season in 11th place, having been 21st when he took over.

First Trophy

For the 1989–90  season, United went on to win the FA Cup, beating Crystal Palace 1–0 in the final replay after a 3–3 draw in the first match, giving Ferguson his first major trophy as Manchester United manager.

First League Title

In 1990–91, there were some excellent performances that season but lost to Liverpool and  2–0 home defeat by Everton. The game where 17-year-old Ryan Giggs made his senior debut. They were runners-up in the League Cup, losing 1–0 to Sheffield Wednesday. They also reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup, beating that season's Spanish champions Barcelona 2–1. After the match, Ferguson vowed that United would win the league the following season, and at long last he seemed to have won over the last of his skeptics after nearly five years in the job.

1998–99: Treble success

The 1998–99 season saw United complete an unprecedented treble sweep of trophies: the league, FA Cup and Champions League. The success coincided with the club becoming the world's richest and most valuable sporting brand worldwide.

On 8 May 2013, Ferguson announced his retirement as manager of Manchester United. During his 26 years at the club, he won 38 trophies, including 13 Premier League and two UEFA Champions League titles. His last match for the United will be On 19 May, 2013, against WBA. Another Scottish, the Everton Manager David Moyes will be his successor.

Sir Alex Ferguson was a one-off, a freak of nature who more than earned his 27 years at a powerhouse football club and brought unparalleled joy and glory to the red side of Manchester. The Dream Merchants!!

On 3rd May, 1903, precisely 100 years back, Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, a small town photographer from Maharashtra, screened his black-and-white silent film Raja Harischandra and that made him the founding father of Indian cinema. This year, on same day Indian film industry celebrate a century of its existence. The film was based on the life of Raja Harischandra, a famous character from Hindu mythology.

Dhundiraj Govind Phalke's better known as  Dadasaheb Phalke, made almost 95 films but never made any money and  he died in penury.

Apart from Hindi film industry India also have many regional film industry with some great name.

Hindi Film Industry also known as Bollywood. As per my current status I can proudly declare that am not at all a movie buff. However, during my school and college day things was different. During my early working years I was greatly exposed to the Hollywood but once I returned back to India once again I gone back to the Hindi movies.  On Indian cinema’s centenary, the blog is a tribute to the world’s largest Film industry.
